Shree AMPS Copper Resources SARL – Democratic Republic of the Congo

Activities:

Cobalt Mining

Copper Mining,

Copper Cathodes Manufacturing

Cobalt Mining

Cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is globally significant because the country produces the majority of the world’s cobalt, a key metal used in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, smartphones, and energy storage.

Industrial mining – Large-scale operations using heavy machinery, modern processing facilities, and formal safety systems.

Copper Mining

Copper mining is the backbone of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) economy, representing about 90% of its total exports. The country holds approximately 10% of the world’s copper reserves, with deposits that are among the highest grade globally—often exceeding 3% copper content compared to the global average of less than 1%.

Copper Cathodes Manufacturing

Copper cathodes are high-purity copper plates (typically 99.99% Cu) produced mainly through the SX-EW (Solvent Extraction – Electrowinning) process or via smelting & electrorefining.

1. Ore Processing / Leaching

Copper ores (often oxide ores) are crushed and treated with acid solutions to dissolve copper into a liquid (pregnant leach solution).

2. Solvent Extraction (SX)

The copper-rich solution is purified and concentrated by transferring copper ions into an organic phase, removing impurities.

3. Electrowinning (EW)

An electric current is passed through the purified solution. Copper ions deposit onto stainless steel starter sheets, forming solid copper plates (cathodes).

4. Harvesting & Finishing

The deposited copper sheets are stripped, washed, weighed, and bundled for sale or further fabrication (wires, rods, alloys).

Cathodes are the standard raw material for most copper products used in electrical systems, electronics, construction, and renewable energy technologies.
